What are the differences between stainless steel round bars and stainless steel pipes

Stainless steel round bars and stainless steel pipes differ in several aspects, as follows:

Shape and structure: The stainless steel round bar is solid, with a uniform circular cross-section (as shown in Figure 1). While the stainless steel pipe is hollow and has a ring-shaped cross-section (as shown in Figure 2).

Production process: The production process of stainless steel round bars mainly includes hot rolling, forging and cold drawing. The production process of stainless steel pipes is more complex. Seamless pipes need to first make a perforated hollow tube from solid round steel, and then undergo hot rolling, cold rolling or cold drawing processes to be formed; welded pipes are made by rolling stainless steel plates into a tubular shape and then welding them together.

Specification indication: For stainless steel round bars, the specification is usually expressed by diameter, such as "Φ50mm" indicating a round bar with a diameter of 50 millimeters. For stainless steel pipes, the specification needs to specify both the outer diameter and the wall thickness, such as "Φ108×4mm" indicating an outer diameter of 108 millimeters and a wall thickness of 4 millimeters.

Performance features: Under the same material and diameter conditions, the bending strength of stainless steel round bars is relatively higher. Due to its hollow structure, stainless steel pipes have greater bending and torsion resistance strength while maintaining the same level of strength. They are lightweight and represent an economical section type of steel. Moreover, the pressure resistance capacity of stainless steel pipes generally offers a more significant advantage compared to stainless steel round bars.

Application fields: Stainless steel round bars are widely used in fields such as hardware kitchenware, mechanical manufacturing, and architectural decoration, and can be used to manufacture bolts, nuts, shaft parts, etc. Stainless steel pipes are mainly used in fluid transportation pipelines in industries such as petroleum, chemical engineering, medicine, and food, as well as mechanical structural components.
