Must food-grade stainless steel pipes be polished pipes
The reason why food-grade stainless steel pipes are polished pipes is as follows:
According to the GB 4806.9-2016 standard, there is no requirement that they must be polished pipes. However, in terms of sensory requirements, specific explanations are given for the surface: The surface in contact with food should be clean, the coating should not crack or peel off, the welded parts should be smooth without air holes or cracks and burrs.
According to another standard: The surface quality requirements for fluid transportation stainless steel welded steel pipes as stipulated in the GB/T 12771-2008 standard are as follows: The inner and outer surfaces of the pipes should be smooth, and there should be no cracks, splits, folds, heavy coatings, twists, excessive acid washing, residual iron oxide scale, or other defects that hinder usage. From the above interpretation, it is not explicitly required that polished pipes must be used.
Although the two key food-grade stainless steel pipe standards did not specify that the pipes must be polished, they did clearly define the surface requirements. Thus, the importance of the material can be understood. Some large factories' materials actually meet the above requirements and standards upon leaving the factory, so they do not need to be polished separately, and thus cannot be called polished pipes. However, some raw materials failed to meet the above requirements, and therefore, they must go through multiple processes such as polishing to meet the above standard requirements.
Therefore, in conclusion, food-grade stainless steel pipes are not necessarily polished pipes. However, for material selection, they must meet the above requirements. Otherwise, polishing and other grinding processes are still necessary to achieve the required standard requirements.
