Classification and Applications of Stainless Steel Welded Pipes

The stainless steel welded pipes have diverse classifications and applications. They can mainly be divided into the following categories:

Straight seam welded pipes and spiral welded pipes: This is a classification based on the form of the weld. Straight seam welded pipes are steel pipes supported by hot-rolled or cold-rolled steel plates or steel strip coils, and are welded separately on a welding machine. Spiral welded pipes, on the other hand, are formed by rolling low-carbon carbon structural steel or low-alloy structural steel strips into pipe blanks at a certain angle of the spiral line, and then welding the pipe seams together to complete the manufacturing process.

Welded steel pipes for low-pressure fluid transportation (GB/T 3092-1993) and welded steel pipes for low-pressure fluid transportation (GB/T 3091-1993): The former is used for transporting general low-pressure fluids such as water, gas, air, oil, and heating steam, while the latter undergoes hot-dip galvanizing treatment based on the former and is used for transporting general low-pressure fluids such as water, gas, air, oil, and heating steam, or for other purposes.

Wire conduit: Used in concrete and various structural power distribution projects to protect wires. Common diameters range from 13 to 76 mm. The walls are relatively thin. They are mostly coated or galvanized before use and require cold bending tests.

Metric Welded Pipes: These are seamless pipes made of stainless steel, represented by outer diameter * wall thickness in millimeters. They are divided into two types: ordinary and thin-walled. Ordinary welded pipes are used as structural components, such as transmission shafts, or for fluid transportation, while thin-walled welded pipes are used for manufacturing furniture, lamps, etc.

Spiral welded pipe: A pipe blank is formed by rolling a low-carbon carbon structural steel or low-alloy structural steel strip at a certain helical angle, and then the pipe seams are welded together to complete the manufacturing process. It is mainly used for large-diameter pipeline transportation of petroleum, natural gas, etc.

Stainless steel welded pipes have a wide range of applications. They are used for fluid transportation, wire protection, as well as in fields such as architectural decoration and furniture manufacturing. With the rapid development of stainless steel production and the advancement of welding and inspection technologies, the varieties and specifications of stainless steel welded pipes have been increasing. They have increasingly replaced seamless steel pipes in many fields, especially in heat exchange standby pipes, decorative pipes, and medium and low-pressure fluid pipes, and have become the new favorite in the building materials market.
