What are the differences between stainless steel industrial pipes and decorative pipes

The welds of stainless steel industrial pipes and decorative pipes have the following differences:

1. Regarding the material aspect

The decorative pipes used in home decoration and building materials are usually made of 201 or 304 materials. In coastal areas, 316 stainless steel materials are used. Industrial stainless steel pipes generally adopt 304, 316, or 316L materials. Sometimes, when industrial pipes are used as heat exchange tubes, more heat-resistant 310s stainless steel or 321 stainless steel is used.

2. Thickness

The actual thickness of decorative pipe materials is generally between 0.25 and 3.0 mm, while the thickness of industrial pipe materials is often more than 3.0 mm. The difference in thickness also has an impact on their specific application environments, as mentioned below.

3. Production Process

The stainless steel decorative pipe is made by welding steel strips together. The raw material for the stainless steel industrial pipe is round steel. The round steel is first perforated to form a pipe blank, and then the pipe blank is successively subjected to multiple cold rolling or cold drawing processes.

4. Welding Seam Differences

Decorative pipes are made through welding, so they have weld seams on the pipe body. However, industrial pipes are generally seamless. But there are also some, like welded pipes, used in industrial applications.

5. Application Areas

Stainless steel decorative pipes are commonly used in areas where high surface requirements are needed, such as balcony guard windows, stair handrails, bus stop handrails, and bathroom drying racks. Stainless steel industrial pipes are often used in industries, such as boilers, heat exchangers, mechanical parts, sewage pipes, etc. Additionally, due to the thicker thickness and higher pressure resistance of industrial pipes compared to decorative pipes, they are also widely used in pipelines for transporting fluids, such as water, gas, natural gas, and oil.
