The calculation method for the span between the baffles of the heat exchange tubes

1. Calculation method for unsupported span of heat exchange tubes

In a baffle-type heat exchanger, the design of the support for the heat exchange tubes is a crucial aspect. For unsupported spans, the general design approach is to calculate based on the diameter and spacing of the heat exchange tubes. The specific calculation method is as follows:

Calculate the spacing between the heat exchange tubes

The calculation of the spacing should take into account factors such as the flow rate of the fluid and pressure drop, and be corrected according to the size of the heat exchanger. Generally speaking, the spacing for heat exchanger tubes with a diameter of 25mm is usually 120mm, while for tubes with a diameter of 50mm, it is generally 160mm. This ensures smooth flow between the tubes and makes full use of the heat exchange area.

2. Calculate the span of the heat exchange tubes

The span of the heat exchange tubes should take into account factors such as thermal expansion, fluid impact and weight. Generally speaking, the calculation method for the span is as follows:

Span = 0.01Lx (0.3 + 0.005DL)

Here, L represents the length of the heat exchange tube, and D represents the diameter of the tube. It should be noted that this calculation formula is only applicable when the tubes are arranged in a single row. If the tubes are arranged in two rows or more rows, adjustments need to be made according to the actual situation.

II. Other Important Notes

When designing a baffle-type heat exchanger, the following points should also be taken into consideration:

The material of the heat exchange tubes should be selected appropriately. Generally, factors such as the chemical properties and temperature of the heat exchange medium need to be taken into consideration. For example, corrosive media can be made of stainless steel or titanium alloy, while high-temperature media require the use of high-temperature alloy materials.

2. The layout of the heat exchange tubes should also be selected based on the actual situation. Common layouts include single row, double row, and multi-row configurations.

3. The cleaning and maintenance of heat exchangers are also very important. Regular cleaning and inspections should be carried out to promptly address issues such as pipe blockages and leaks, ensuring the normal operation of the equipment.

The above is the calculation method and precautions for the unsupported span of the baffle heat exchanger. It should be noted that this calculation method is for reference only, and the specific design still needs to be adjusted according to the actual situation.
