Will 304 brushed stainless steel pipes rust

Wire drawing is a popular surface treatment technology in the current metal and non-metallic industry. The 304 wire-drawn stainless steel pipe has a strong metallic texture and is very popular among consumers. It is commonly used in electronic products, furniture, and decoration industries. Moreover, it is not prone to leaving fingerprints, saving a lot of cleaning and maintenance work. However, many people have raised questions: Will the 304 wire-drawn stainless steel pipe rust? There are various opinions online. Today, I will explain it to you:

The 304 pipes usually have both shiny and matte surfaces. Generally, the matte brushed surface of the stainless steel pipe is more upscale and is highly favored by the public. It is important to maintain them properly. If not maintained properly, the possibility of rusting is higher!

304 stainless steel pipes are a type of corrosion-resistant steel. Their main components include nickel, chromium, carbon and other elements. The chromium element can form a protective chromium-rich film on the surface of 304 stainless steel welding pipes, thereby preventing further oxidation and rusting of the stainless steel pipes. However, these do not completely prevent oxidation. Regardless of whether it is polished or not, stainless steel will still oxidize and rust when exposed to water or corrosive liquids over a long period of time.

The surface texturing process of 304 brushed stainless steel pipe involves creating linear patterns on the surface of the product through grinding, which serves as a decorative method. Some people may find the hair-like patterns appealing, while others prefer the snowflake patterns, some like the long threads, and others prefer the short ones. There are two types of texturing methods: manual brushing and mechanical brushing. The straight threads are called hair-like patterns, and the messy threads are called snowflake patterns.

However, regardless of the type of wire drawing process, the chromium-rich protective film on the surface of the stainless steel pipe after wire drawing will be damaged, thereby reducing the corrosion resistance of the pipe and causing it to rust easily. If stainless steel pipes that have undergone wire drawing are selected, it is necessary to pay attention to maintenance and cleaning in daily use, avoid contact with chemical substances, and in coastal areas, it is best not to use wire-drawn stainless steel pipes.

Daily, apply anti-rust oil to the 304 brushed stainless steel pipes. Be sure not to damage the surface of the stainless steel. Do not use corrosive cleaners to clean the pipes. Generally, wash with cold water and then dry quickly.

Will 304 brushed stainless steel pipes rust? It depends on the usage environment. If the environment is humid and there are many corrosive substances, whether or not it is brushed, it will cause rusting of the 304 stainless steel pipes. However, brushing does reduce the corrosion resistance of the 304 stainless steel pipes and accelerates rusting. But as long as it is used properly, there will be no worries about rusting.
