What are the differences between stainless steel decorative pipes and stainless steel water pipes
1. Material
The common materials for stainless steel decorative pipes are 201, 304, etc. However, the materials used for stainless steel water pipes must be food-grade stainless steel, such as 304, 316, etc. Although there are no significant differences in appearance between them, since decorative pipes are only used for decorative purposes, the requirements for rust prevention and corrosion resistance are not very high.
Therefore, 201 type stainless steel, which has poor rust resistance but is relatively inexpensive, has gained popularity in decorative applications. However, water pipes, which are used for transporting drinking water, have extremely high requirements for rust resistance and corrosion resistance, so they must be made of materials of food-grade quality or above. There is a significant difference in material selection between the two.
2. Process Requirements
Since stainless steel decorative pipes are usually only used for decorative purposes, the process requirements are not very strict. Generally, it is only required that there be no obvious defects on the surface. However, the requirements for stainless steel water pipes are extremely strict. In addition to the smoothness and flawlessness of the inner and outer surfaces, they must meet the standards for drinking water use. Moreover, there are clear numerical requirements for liquid pressure-bearing, intergranular corrosion characteristics, etc.
3. Standard
The application standard for stainless steel decorative pipes is: YB/T5363-2016 Decorative Stainless Steel Pipes for Welding. While the application standard for stainless steel water pipes is: GB/T 12771-2008 Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for Fluid Transportation. There are significant differences between these two application standards.
4. Application
Stainless steel decorative pipes are widely used. For instance, they are commonly found in security screens, stair railings, fence railings, road barriers, and so on.
In addition, the other stainless steel items we saw outside that were used for decoration purposes are mostly decorative pipes. The application scope of stainless steel water pipes is relatively limited. They are mainly used in water delivery systems for drinking water and industrial water.
