What role does copper play in stainless steel pipes

Generally speaking, 201 stainless steel welded pipes can withstand high temperatures up to 315 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature limit for 304 stainless steel welded pipes is 650 degrees Celsius. Beyond this temperature, heavy metals in the material will precipitate. If stainless steel pipes are heated beyond this temperature, creep will occur and the material will start to deform. Therefore, the usage environment of stainless steel pipes should be below the corresponding temperature; otherwise, the pipes will definitely be damaged. Due to the increase in nickel content, the high-temperature resistance of stainless steel pipes can be enhanced. Thus, the high-temperature resistance of 304 stainless steel pipes is slightly higher than that of 201 stainless steel pipes.

The usage environment of 201 and 304 stainless steel welded pipes is subject to temperature limitations. Therefore, customers should pay attention to this issue when using them. In high-temperature environments, special high-temperature resistant stainless steel pipes need to be used, as ordinary decorative pipes may not meet the product requirements.

Some users of stainless steel welded pipes often encounter a situation where, for instance, with the same 201 stainless steel welded pipes, some can be bent and flared to a certain extent, while others will crack when bent or flared. Why is there such a difference among the same 201 pipes?

The main reason here is that the copper content in 201 stainless steel welded pipes is different. Stainless steel is an alloy material. When judging the quality of stainless steel materials, it is generally based on the proportion of nickel and chromium in the material, the higher the better. For example, the 201 material is 1 nickel and 13 chromium, and the 304 material is 8 nickel and 18 chromium. The corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steel welded pipes is better than that of 201 stainless steel pipes.

However, the copper content in 201 stainless steel welded pipes plays a significant role in the ductility of the pipes. In 201 steel strips, the quality can be classified into high-copper-content steel strips, medium-copper-content steel strips, and low-copper-content steel strips based on the copper content. The higher the copper content, the better the stability and ductility of the pipes, and there is also a considerable price difference in the market.
