How to polish the inner hole of precision stainless steel tubes
Inner hole polishing is a professional term in mechanical processing, also known as deep hole polishing. The inner hole polishing of precision stainless steel tubes is a processing method that reduces the roughness of the inner hole through polishing methods such as mechanical, electrical discharge, electrochemical, plasma, and honing machines. By utilizing mechanical, chemical or electrochemical effects, the surface roughness of the tube interior is reduced to achieve a bright and smooth processing result. The following introduces two commonly used polishing methods for the inner hole polishing of precision stainless steel tubes.
1. Electrochemical polishing
Internal hole polishing is usually carried out using the electrochemical polishing method because it has high production efficiency, low cost, and enhances the corrosion resistance of the pipe surface. However, for other small-diameter precision stainless steel pipes, the mechanical method is mostly used. The internal hole polishing is difficult and the inspection is challenging, consuming a lot of time. Internal holes are processed by electrical discharge machining, which has high processing accuracy and good surface finish, but it consumes a lot of time. Through effective means, various problems such as deburring and mirror polishing of internal hole polishing can be solved.
2. Hobbing Machine Polishing
Of course, the hobbing machine can also be used for polishing the inner holes of precision stainless steel round tubes. If the hole is not too deep, a vertical drill or a swivel drill can be used instead. The hobbing process involves using a hobbing head for the operation. The structure of the hobbing head is cylindrical, with several grooves around the circumference for installing oil stones. The bottom of the grooves is equipped with a compression spring. During the hobbing process, the compression spring pushes the oil stone against the inner wall of the tube. The hobbing head's rotating shaft is driven by the hobbing machine to move up and down, polishing the inner wall of the tube. Generally, the travel of the hobbing machine is much larger than that of the vertical drill or the swivel drill. Using a hobbing machine can process relatively long precision stainless steel tubes. Vertical drills or swivel drills can only process relatively short tubes. The precision of hobbing can reach 0.01mm or less. Chemical polishing can only polish tubes with already smooth inner walls. It is not applicable to tubes with rough inner walls.
