Today, I'd like to talk to you all about "Why does stainless steel welded pipe crack
If the 316l stainless steel pipe shows signs of cracking, it can fully indicate that the quality of this stainless steel pipe is substandard. However, we all know that the quality of 316l stainless steel pipes is determined by the raw steel strip. A good 316l stainless steel pipe factory always selects steel strips produced by large-scale refining furnaces as raw materials to prevent cracking of the stainless steel pipe.
Depending on the temperature and duration, cracks can be classified as hot cracks, cold cracks, stress corrosion cracks and delamination cracks. The location where cracks form during the welding process varies. Visually, some are hidden within the weld, some are on the weld itself, and some are in the heat-affected zone. It is worth noting that cracks sometimes occur during the welding process, and sometimes after welding or after a period of operation, the latter being called delayed cracks, which are more harmful.
As the most important safety measure for stainless steel pipeline guardrails, once the stainless steel pipeline develops cracks, its protective performance will be greatly reduced. But why do 316l stainless steel welded pipes develop cracks, and how can we prevent it? The main reasons for the cracking of 316l stainless steel welded pipes are analyzed as follows:
1. Excessive polishing of stainless steel welds
The 316l stainless steel pipe is welded using steel plates. Welding cracks usually occur due to excessive grinding during the processing or too thin welds, which are quality issues and do not meet the standards of a qualified 316l stainless steel pipe. If we do not use it, we won't discover this problem. However, we usually find it after using it, so there will be some inconvenience in our lives. Therefore, we should pay attention to preventing weld fractures at the welds.
Therefore, during the cracking process and the usage period, that is, in terms of product quality, good stainless steel pipe manufacturers usually strictly control their product quality and all have corresponding product certificates.
II. Inferior 316L Stainless Steel Raw Materials
The quality of stainless steel sheet is the foundation for the quality of stainless steel pipe welding. Based on the copper content, it can be classified as low copper, medium copper and high copper, and the price will increase. Due to the presence of many brands of stainless steel pipes in the market and their competitors' mutual competition, the profit is getting thinner and thinner. Therefore, some unscrupulous manufacturers choose to use medium-frequency signal furnace materials. In fact, forged steel sheet is recycled and reprocessed using stainless steel waste materials. The materials have many impurities, high carbon content, and high hardness. After long-term processing and use, it is very easy to generate cracks.
III. How to Solve the Problem of Cracking in 316L Stainless Steel Pipes
The reasons for the corrosion cracking of stainless steel pipes include excessive grinding of the stainless steel weld seams and the poor quality of the stainless steel raw materials. The corrosion cracking will affect the safety of the pipe usage and cause certain economic losses. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent this type of corrosion and avoid causing unnecessary troubles. Additionally, for the current situation, strictly controlling the usage environment of 304 stainless steel pipes is one of the most effective ways to solve the cracking problem of stainless steel welded pipes.
