What are the relevant standards for stainless steel welded pipes

Standard for Stainless Steel Welded Pipes

I. Chinese National Standards (GB/T)

GB/T 12771-2019 "Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for Fluid Transportation": Applicable to stainless steel welded pipes for transporting water, oil, gas, etc. of general fluids, stipulates the classification and code, dimensions, shape, weight, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate of the pipes.

GB/T 12770-2025 "Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for Mechanical Structures": Applicable to stainless steel welded pipes for mechanical structures and general purposes, implemented on March 1, 2026, replacing the old standard.

GB/T 21832-2008 "Dual Phase Austenitic-Ferritic Stainless Steel Welded Pipes": Specifically formulated for stainless steel welded pipes of dual phase austenitic-ferritic type, applicable to fluid transportation in industries such as petroleum, chemical engineering, and natural gas.

GB/T 31929-2015 "Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for Ships": Applicable to stainless steel welded pipes for ships and marine engineering, with special requirements for resistance to seawater corrosion.

GB/T 32569-2016 "Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for Seawater Desalination Plants": Designed for seawater desalination plants, emphasizing anti-chloride corrosion performance.

GB/T 24593-2009 "Technical Specifications for Thin-Walled Stainless Steel Pipelines": Specifies the materials, design, construction, inspection and acceptance of thin-walled stainless steel pipelines (including welded pipes).

GB/T 17394.1-2025 "Dimensions, Shape, Weight and Allowable Deviations of Seamless and Welded Pipes - Part 1: Welded Pipes": Uniformly standardizes the dimensions, shape, weight and allowable deviations requirements of welded pipes (including stainless steel).

II. Chinese Industry Standards

CJ/T 151-2016 "Thin-Walled Stainless Steel Pipes": Applicable to thin-walled stainless steel welded pipes with a nominal size not exceeding DN300 and a nominal pressure not exceeding PN16, used for transporting domestic water (cold water, hot water), drinking purified water, gas, fuel oil, etc.

QB/T 2467-1999 "Stainless Steel Pipes for Food Industry": Follows the ISO 2037:1992 standard, applicable to stainless steel welded pipes and seamless pipes in the food industry that come into direct contact with food.

QB/T 4848-2015 "Installation and Acceptance Specifications for Stainless Steel Pipes in Food Industry": Specifies the installation technical requirements and acceptance standards for stainless steel pipes (including welded connections) used in the food industry.

HG/T 20537-2014 "Technical Requirements for Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for Chemical Industry": Applicable to stainless steel welded pipes for transporting corrosive media in the chemical industry, with strict regulations on corrosion resistance and welding quality.

SY/T 6623-2016 "Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry": Formulated for the petroleum and natural gas exploration and development, as well as transportation, emphasizing special performance such as resistance to hydrogen sulfide corrosion.

III. International and Advanced Domestic Standards

ASTM A312/A312M "Unfinished and Welded Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipes": American Society for Testing and Materials standard, applicable to austenitic stainless steel welded pipes used for fluid transportation under high-temperature and corrosive environments.

ASTM A269/A269M "General Purpose Austenitic Stainless Steel Unfinished and Welded Pipes": applicable to austenitic stainless steel unfinished and welded pipes for general purposes, emphasizing basic corrosion resistance.

ASTM A789/A789M "Unfinished and Welded Ferritic/Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipes": a standard specifically for duplex stainless steel unfinished and welded pipes.

ASTM A790/A790M "Unfinished and Welded Austenitic-Ferritic (Duplex) Stainless Steel Pipes": similar to A789, applicable to duplex stainless steel welded pipes with higher requirements.

EN 10217 series "Pressure-Suitable Welded Pipes": European standard, divided into multiple parts, covering requirements for pressure-suitable welded pipes of different steel types (including stainless steel).

EN 10219 series "Cold-Formed Welded Structural Pipes": applicable to structural welded pipes for cold forming, including stainless steel materials.

JIS G3459 "Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for General Structures": Japanese industrial standard, applicable to stainless steel welded pipes for general structures.

JIS G3468 "Stainless Steel Welded Pipes for Pipelines": Japanese standard, applicable to stainless steel welded pipes for pipeline systems.

ISO 2037:1992 "Stainless Steel Pipes for Food Industry": international standard, adopted by China's QB/T 2467-1999, stipulating the basic requirements for stainless steel pipes (including welding) for the food industry.

IV. Other Relevant Standards

CECS 277-2010 "Technical Regulations for Thin-Walled Stainless Steel Pipe Connections in Building Water Supply and Drainage": standards of the Construction Engineering Consulting Society, stipulating the construction technical requirements for thin-walled stainless steel pipes (including welding connections) in building water supply and drainage.

CECS 153-2003 "Technical Regulations for Building Water Supply Thin-Walled Stainless Steel Pipe Engineering": an early standard for building water supply thin-walled stainless steel pipes, still having reference value.

API 5L "Pipeline Steel Pipe Specifications": American Petroleum Institute standard, containing requirements for stainless steel welded pipes used for oil and gas transportation.

The above standards cover the application requirements of stainless steel welded pipes in various fields (fluid transportation, mechanical structures, marine and offshore industries, food industry, chemical industry, oil and gas, etc.). Users can select the corresponding implementation standards based on the specific usage scenarios.
