What are the differences in the production processes of BA grade and EP grade stainless steel pipe

The production processes of BA grade stainless steel pipes and EP grade stainless steel pipes differ as follows:

Surface treatment method:

BA grade stainless steel pipes: They undergo bright annealing treatment. In a high-temperature environment, inert gases such as argon are used as the gas atmosphere inside the furnace to prevent material oxidation. Then, they are rapidly cooled to form a uniform, smooth, and oxide-free shiny surface.

EP grade stainless steel pipes: On the basis of BA grade stainless steel pipes, an electrolytic polishing process is added. The stainless steel pipes are immersed in an electrolyte solution, and through the electrolytic action, the small protrusions on the surface of the material are dissolved first, thereby flattening the surface and achieving a smoother mirror-like effect.

Cleaning process:

BA grade stainless steel pipes: Usually, ultrasonic cleaning is used, and a cleaning agent such as SC2286 is used for degreasing and oil removal to remove surface oil and impurities.

EP grade stainless steel pipes: In addition to the similar cleaning steps as BA grade pipes, high-purity water purification treatment is also required to meet higher cleanliness requirements.

Precision control:

BA grade stainless steel pipes: The dimensional accuracy can reach ±0.05mm, and the internal surface roughness Ra can be lower than 0.4 micrometers.

EP grade stainless steel pipes: The precision requirements are higher. The diameter tolerance is controlled within ±0.02mm (0.1%), the length tolerance is controlled within ±0.05mm, the straightness curvature does not exceed 0.1mm/m, the surface roughness Ra of the finished product is ≤0.15μm, and the concentricity tolerance is controlled within ±0.01mm.
