Will the stainless steel capillary tube rust in a humid environment

The reason why stainless steel capillary tubes are called stainless steel is that they have excellent corrosion resistance, which can prevent them from rusting and thus enable them to be used in various acidic and alkaline environments. Especially with the continuous development of stainless steel production technology, the probability of rusting for stainless steel products in China has been greatly reduced.

Although the occurrence of rusting has been reduced, it doesn't mean it won't happen. So, at present, what factors are influencing the occurrence of rusting?

Factor One: Corrosion by Chloride Ions Chloride ions are the most common example found in nature, present everywhere, such as in salt, sweat, seawater, soil, etc. Although stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance, in environments with a large amount of chloride ions, its corrosion resistance will weaken, leading to rusting. Therefore, the use of stainless steel is subject to environmental requirements and cannot be used in environments containing a large amount of chloride ions.

Factor Two: Without annealing treatment, most stainless steels contain not only carbon but also other metal alloy elements. Currently, the most common alloy elements in stainless steel include nickel, manganese, chromium, etc. The increase of these metal elements will enhance the various properties of stainless steel. However, if no annealing treatment is carried out, the alloy content in the matrix structure will be low, and the corrosion resistance will be poor, thus being corroded by the corrosive factors in the environment.

Factor Three: Intrinsic intergranular corrosion materials without titanium and niobium have a tendency towards intergranular corrosion. Currently, the vast majority of stainless steel materials in our country do not contain titanium and niobium. Although the surface of stainless steel has no possibility of corrosion, its interior begins to corrode. At the same time, certain behaviors during processing can also accelerate intergranular corrosion, such as welding. As long as these factors are properly handled, rusting phenomena can be reduced.
